What an amazing journey it’s been producing the upcoming event, The Clean Slate Diaries! I cannot believe the outpouring of local and national support for this event and for the work we are doing to raise awareness, education and prevention. Our local media has been extremely accommodating, the number of artists and sponsors who donated their time and services has truly humbled me, and the heartfelt communication I’ve received from those impacted by this violence has personally changed my life!
One person who has been an INTEGRAL part of this event is Maren Guse. For those who know her, a few of the more visible hats she wears are Creative/Social Media Director and Survivor Video Producer, but most importantly – she is a beautiful, dear friend and my “right-hand man”!
An important detail you should know about Maren personally is she is not a survivor of rape, incest or domestic violence. She became immediately connected to this cause from the moment I trusted her confidence and shared with her my personal story. Her commitment to raising awareness and prevention has been unwavering. Her dedication to honoring the survivors in the profound video she created has been steadfast. And her passion for spreading the word about this event and its’ importance to survivors has been humbling to witness.
Maren is a prime example of how important it is for those not affected to support the journey of those moving from victim to survivor and beyond. She has proven that we all play a critical role in not only healing, but prevention and education. We all can help in some way stop the incidence of these crimes by using our voice and taking action. Maren eats, breathes and sleeps this message – day in and day out – to anyone who will listen.
We all experience loss in some form as we move along the journey of our lives. And I believe this is what connects us all - our ability to empathize with another’s journey and turn our individual experiences into something benefiting the good of others.
Please join Maren, the artists, sponsors and others at The Clean Slate Diaires on Saturday evening, April 23rd, at May Memorial Unitarian Society and honor the survivors of Rape, Incest and Domestic Violence. You never know how much the brilliance of your light can illuminate the paths of those who wait in the darkness.
In solidarity, love & peace ~
